Born in Hong Kong, 1997 Lives and works in London, United Kingdom. Dense with information and odd depictions of the environment, Chan’s works reflect on her upbringing in Hong Kong. Chan’s hologram-like works explore the notion of displacement, movement and change. Her works are a documentation of the visuals and sensations during her time spent with that piece of work. Chan often describes certain uncanny qualities of her works are “stolen realities” in her surroundings. Shapes and forms are imported into her images, leaving their original meaning behind. These “realities” are revived in a new space, allowing a new perspective. The merger of these abstracted randomness seems peculiar, but they reveal their origins through close investigation. These scattered yet familiar spaces are not irrational conversion but an intentional analysis of Chan’s identity and environment. Kristy Chan received a Bachelor in Fine Art from the Slade School of Fine Art in 2019, currently completing her Masters in Contemporary Art at the Sotheby’s Institute of Art.
