I’m a French artist and architect living in London for the last 6 years. I have been developing this current series of work since 2013, which responded to a crucial need to experience a free approach in contrast and relation with the structured life of an architect and restore accumulated impressions by letting intuitions taking over the reflexive.
Each painting arises of very personal moments. A succession of accumulated stories, one giving rise to another, crashing into another until all the stories mingle and have their own existence. The paintings are like windows open on something else, but you need to stop to start seeing. The colors take their time to come alive and reveal themselves. The dark tones bring me a sense of silence and deep intimacy.
I was inspired at a very young age by outsider art and Spanish abstract painters like Tapies and Manuel Millares, as well as the work of Richter and the research of exceptional matter of Anselm Kiefer.
There is a sensual relationship with the texture, the need to touch the canvas, to feel the marks, the wounds and the light that manages to make its way through, like a passage to an elsewhere. The paintings are lacerated, scratched, written in an abstract language such that sometimes it's almost a second painting that is created at the back of the canvas.
