Currently living and working in London, Nuno Reis – painter, sculptor; fashion, costume and textile designer and educator- was born in Portugal in the early 1970’s where he lived up to the age of 18. He moved to London to peruse an artistic education. Nuno Reis has explored and developed work within many areas of art & design. He initially started by studying at Middlesex University where he completed a combined BA Hons degree in constructed textiles and sculpture. At this stage he has developed work that combined wearable sculptures and performance art. He followed onto studying fashion and tailoring at the London College of Fashion and started developing a range of tailored urban menswear that lead onto a range of awards and a representation at Debenhams department store in London. A passion for young people and a need to perpetuate and share his personal learning experiences lead Nuno to engage in a career of teaching. Nuno trained at Goldsmiths University in 2009 and had been teaching since alongside his artistic career. Living in the city and being part of urban social experiences, alongside his long commitment to the fashion industry has strongly tailored his approach to his art work. His use of colour and mixed media and his combination of materials and techniques reflect not only his vast and diversified artistic experiences as well as the realities he is trying to represent.
