Rod Capps was born in Brighton, the UK, in 1966. In 2007 he and his
partner moved to rural Southern France to begin a new adventure.
Rod’s career has spanned across many fields, from running his own
greyhound racing team, co-founding a new business research company
– to building and renovating houses in France.
Today his passion is to grow the Vinny Vine family of sculptures. “The idea began while
observing the day-to-day working life of the vineyard opposite our home. The owners were
removing and discarding all these beautiful century-old vines and replacing them with new”,
commented Rod. “I admired their beauty, shape and figurative potential and created my first
sculpture in 2016, aptly named Vinny Vine”.
Over the next couple of years Rod created more sculptures and went on to write a short fictional
story of how the vines 'came to life’. “It all occurred organically over time and I wanted the
story to embellish the characters I created in a humorous yet factual reflection of life in the
vineyard – the workers, the sounds, the colours…”
With no formal training, Rod never envisaged being an artist however his life in France became
the perfect backdrop and unleashed his creativity. From there he began experimenting with
